Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses

May 9/10, October 17/18


Course Overview:
  The Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) course is taught concurrently with the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) for physicians.  ATCN was developed to teach established standards of care and practical, life-savings skills.  This advanced trauma course is designed for the nurse working in Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, Medical Surgical floors or the Operating Rooms who wish to increase their knowledge and practical skills in managing the multiple trauma patient.  The course includes didactic presentations on initial assessment, airway management, abdominal trauma, thoracic trauma shock, head and spinal cord trauma, burns, extremity trauma, pediatric trauma, trauma in pregnancy, and stabilization and transportation.  Coupled with the lectures are corresponding practical skills stations and moulage assessment stations which demonstrate application of didactic information.
