Children's Tower: Children's Emergency Department

Opened: April 30, 2023

The new Children’s Tower for emergency, trauma and inpatient care completes an entire city block dedicated to caring for kids. It’s easy to find – just one turn off I-95 – and houses all pediatric specialists under one roof.

The Emergency Department has its own entrance with dedicated elevators for quick access to the care kids need.

Children’s Tower fast facts for EMS

  • Children’s Tower opened April 30, 2023; the ED opens for patient arrivals at 0500
  • 100 percent dedicated to pediatrics
  • Connected to the outpatient Children’s Pavilion
  • New consolidated home for:
  • Children’s Emergency Department
  • Level 1 pediatric trauma center
  • Acute and intensive care units (all private rooms)
  • Specialty inpatient beds (EMU, BMT, hem/onc, etc.)
  • Ground level EMS break room
  • Ground level decontamination room

Emergency and trauma care: ages served

  • General emergency care: Birth – 18 years (with exceptions for diseases of childhood and special needs) 
  • Trauma: 14 and under (patients ages 15+ must go to adult trauma bay in Critical Care Hospital)

The Children’s Emergency Department and trauma center are ABOVE GROUND and require a very short elevator ride from drop off location on ground level.
