Faculty Biosketch

John Sayers has enjoyed the opportunity to serve the citizens of Central Virginia communities since 1980.  John began his EMS journey as a volunteer with Southside Virginia Emergency Crew (Petersburg, Virginia).  In 1993, he proudly joined Chesterfield Fire and Emergency Medical Services.  During his tenure in Chesterfield, John served as a firefighter/paramedic, flight paramedic with EMS Med-Flight I, ALS field training officer, tactical medic with the Chesterfield and Virginia State Police, and a hazardous materials response specialist.  John’s fire department leadership responsibilities included company officer, supervisor of initial and continuing BLS and ALS education, AHA training center coordinator, and fire officer development and promotion manager.  John helped coordinate the implementation of Mobile Integrated Healthcare in Chesterfield County.  He finished his career in Chesterfield as the EMS Captain / Deputy Director of EMS.  Additionally, John is a registered nurse with more than 20 years of critical care experience.

John received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Bridgewater College.  He remains active in the EMS community teaching basic and advanced life support courses in educational institutions and private industry.
