Faculty Biosketch

Ron Passmore is a current resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia living in the suburbs of Richmond. 

Ron received his Associate in Applied Science Degree for Emergency Medical Technology from Southwest Virginia Community College at the Crossroads Institute Campus in Galax Virginia. Ron completed a Surgical Technology Health Occupations Program in 1985, while in high school; followed by graduating from Paramedic School at Polk Community College in Winter Haven Florida on December 1987. 
Ron has maintained a dual practice in both the Operating Room as a Surgical Technologist and a practicing Paramedic since the mid 1980’s. His prior experience includes Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, Central Florida Regional Medical Center in Sanford, FL, Orlando Regional Medical Center, Princeton Hospital, Winter Park Hospital and Health Central, all in Orlando, FL.

Ron relocated to Galax Virginia in 1998 and his work included Pulaski Hospital and Twin County Regional Hospital in addition to serving as the Chief of EMS for Galax-Grayson Emergency Medical Services serving the City of Galax and Grayson County Virginia from 2008 through 2018. During his time in southwest Virginia, Ron also served as Faculty with the Southwest Virginia Community College – Paramedic Program. 

In 2018 Ron joined the Virginia Department of Health in the Office of Emergency Medical Services and relocated to the Richmond area; where he continues to serve as the Director for the Regulation and Compliance Enforcement Division overseeing >38,000 EMS providers, >5000 EMS vehicles, watercraft, and aircraft, and 600 EMS agencies across the Commonwealth of Virginia.  

Since moving to Richmond Ron has maintained his Surgical Technology practice as well by joining the Surgical Trauma Team in the Main Operating Room at VCU Health, the Level I Trauma Center serving the Richmond metro area. In addition, Ron has joined the Faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Surgery as a Paramedic and Surgical SIM Lab Instructor.
